RPS Device Policy

One device is issued to each student, along with a protective case and a charger. It is the student's responsibility to care for the equipment, keeping it safe from accidental and intentional damage. Students are to use the protective case whenever it is possible to do so. Identification labels have been placed on the laptop. These labels are not to be removed or modified. The devices are the property of Randolph Public Schools and is loaned to the student for educational purposes only for the academic school year. Devices must be used in accordance with the Policies and Procedures contained, including the StudentCode of Conduct, the Randolph Public School District Acceptable Use Policy, the Student Fees Policy, and any applicable laws. Use of this computer, as well as access to the computer network, the Internet and email are a privilege and not a right. The computer and accessories are provided for educational purposes only, and are intended to support the learning objectives of Randolph Public Schools. 

Computer Fee

All students in grades 1 through 12 will be required to pay a non-refundable $50 computer fee. Devices will not be issued and / or certain functions will be disabled until the fee is paid. This is a yearly fee. 

Cost of Repairs or Damage

• The Warranty will cover wear of defective parts on all laptops for a period of 1 year. When repairs for accidental damage are needed, the first accidental repair is covered by this fee. If additional repairs are needed fees will be charged based on the cost of the repair. After the third repair students will lose take home privileges for the remainder of the school year. Please note that the replacement cost for lost or stolen devices is not covered by this fee.  Any fees charges by the district have been approved by the School Committee for that school year. Student fees charged shall be reasonable and related to the cost of providing equipment. The School Committee
  will periodically review all student fees, especially in conjunction with the annual budget process. All student fees will be listed and described annually in each school´s student handbook or in some other written form and distributed to each student.
• Additional repair costs for the 24-25 school year are listed below. These charges are for parts only. No additional costs will be charged for installation.
  • Full Keyboard & Trackpad- $39
  • Keyboard only - $19
  • Trackpad only - $20
  • Broken Screen - $32
  • Charger $16
  • Hinge - $8

LOST OR STOLEN DEVICES

• Families will reimburse the school district for the replacement cost of lost or stolen devices before a new device is issued to the student.  For the 24-25 school year this cost is $300. Families are not buying a device and no special privileges are gained when reimbursing the school for a lost or stolen device. Lost or stolen devices do not count against the warrantee provided by the annual tech fee in any way.
