National Criminal Background Check

Dear RPS Staff Hired before July 1, 2013,

As I shared with you in an email last spring, the Governor signed into law the requirement for all public school employees to have a one-time national criminal background check. Unlike CORI, this check will examine criminal activity in all states including Massachusetts.

We were quite successful in completing the national background check process for all staff hired on or after July 1, 2013. It is now time to begin the process for staff hired before that date. We recently received a directive from the DESE regarding how districts should proceed with the process of securing fingerprinting for all such staff. This requirement must be completed by no later June 30, 2016.

In order to avoid overloading the enrollment centers, the DESE has set forth the following staggered schedule based on the first letter of the employee’s last name:

A-D October 2014 through March 2015
E-K April 2015 through August 2015
L-P August 2015 through December 2015
Q-Z January 2016 through May 2016

All Randolph staff members hired prior to July 1, 2013 must abide by the above schedule and have their national background check completed

Please read through the attached guide before you register for an appointment to have your fingerprints taken.

The fingerprint process requires two steps. The first step is to register online for an appointment (or call the toll free number) to have your fingerprint taken. The second step requires you to go to one of the specified locations to physically have your fingerprint taken. It is not very difficult and will take you less than 10 minutes to register and 15 minutes for fingerprinting.

During your timeframe specified above, please visit http://www.identogo.com/FP/Massachusetts.aspx to schedule a date, time and location to have your fingerprints taken. You may also call toll free (866) 349-8130 to schedule an appointment.
There are 15 locations in the Metro Boston and Southeast area and others throughout the state. No other method of securing a fingerprint is accepted.
These sites offer evening and Saturday appointments as well as during the day.
When you are asked to provide a "Provider ID" please use the following code:

Randolph School District 02440000

When you are asked about "Applicant Employer Information" please complete the screen as follows:

The fee is $55 for staff who hold a DESE license and $35 for those who do not hold a DESE license. You may pay with a credit card while online or bring a personal check or money order at the time of your appointment
Please print the confirmation page and note the identification you will need to bring with you to the fingerprinting center.
Upon completion of your fingerprinting, you will receive a receipt. This receipt includes important information should you need assistance from MA Dept. of Criminal Justice Information Services (DCJIS). Hold on to this receipt as proof of completion should you need it. I have also attached to this email, the MA DCJIS document: “How to change, correct, or update your National Criminal History Record Response”.
Thank you very much for your cooperation in securing an appointment during the appropriate times designated above for the national criminal background check. If you have any questions, please review the document “Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Background Checks Law” issued by the Executive Office of Education or you may contact me.
